ph balanced

pH is crucial to the way the cells on the hair shaft sit, and correct balance helps to reduce residue, frizz, tangling, breakage and colour stripping.

Read our blog post on pH balance, how important it is, and why you should look for pH balanced products for both hair & skin.

no sulfates

Sulfates such as (SLS, SLES and SCS)* are used to create abundant bubbling but are well known for their harshness and potential to irritate your skin.

NueBar is sulfate free, but still lathers more than sufficiently to wash the hair using a blend of much gentler coconut and sugar based surfactants.

*Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulfate, Sodium Coco Sulfate

no soap

If you have tried a shampoo bar that left your hair dull, dry, colour stripped or required you to rinse afterwards with apple cider vinegar to remove residue, then you were probably using a soap-based shampoo bar.

These bars are naturally alkaline. The alkalinity causes the hair shaft to swell and cuticles to stick out, resulting in the problems above. Apple cider vinegar helps to restore some balance but the wash they deliver, despite being simple, is actually very harsh.

You can spot a soap-based shampoo bar by its generally lower price and/or an ingredient list that consists primarily of oils and/or butters. They may also (but not always) use the words ‘saponified oils’ or sodium hydroxide in the ingredients list.

botanicals

NueBar uses antioxidant rich organic plant oils that are known to be optimally absorbed by the hair shaft like Argan, Coconut, Olive and Cacao, as well as herbal infusions and essential oils to deeply nourish the hair and soothe the scalp.

Most shampoos use silicones to put an artificial coating on the hair shaft to give it the appearance of shine. NueBar prefers to leave the silicones out and instead create hair that genuinely shines with health.
